Someone is telling the tabloids about Ms. Thornblood's every move. Is it the housekeeper? the cook? the maid? the handyman? The detective hired to solve the case isn't sure. Things are looking pretty hopeless until Mia, his talented cat, offers to spend a week at Ms. Thornblood's as a spy.

With time running out, and an embarrassing secret about to be revealed, will Mia be able to save the day—and solve her first case?

Cats or Dogs?

*** Giveaway closed. Congratulations to Carol S., the winner! ***

Do you prefer cats or dogs? If you're familiar with my books, you probably already know my answer. But, in all honesty, I'm a dog fan too. And just because I don't have any dogs in my life doesn't mean I can't enjoy reading about them.

Speaking of which, I'm excited to announce that my friend Valerie Burns has a new book out this week in her Dog Club Mystery series. Coincidentally, I also have a new Paige Sleuth Cozy Cat Caper Mystery book out, which means no matter where you stand on the cat vs. dog debate you have a reason to celebrate right now!

Valerie was nice enough to send me a Kindle copy of her second Dog Club Mystery, The Puppy Who Knew Too Much, to give away to one lucky reader. This is a gift ebook delivered by Amazon.com, which I believe means you must be a United States resident in order to redeem it. Since I like to make my contests open to everyone, if the winner does not live in the United States I will substitute any ebook from the Cozy Cat Caper Mystery series as your prize. Please see my website for the full rules if you'd like, then enter the giveaway using the Rafflecopter at the end of this post. Good luck!

And here's a peek at the books Valerie and I have out this week:

Bark If It's Murder by V.M. Burns

When a last-minute opportunity arises to accompany her boss to an art auction in Atlanta, Lilly throws some money at the problem of where to board her toy poodle Aggie (short for Agatha Christie). Posh Pet Haven offers the most luxurious canine accommodations in all of Chattanooga, Tennessee. The place even provides pet cams so anxious owners can check in on their pampered pooches.

But when Lilly tries to take a peek at her poodle, she gets a terrible shock—she witnesses what she’s sure is a murder. She thinks the victim may be the wealthy co-owner of Pet Haven. The police follow her lead but find no body, no evidence of a crime, and no video record. Starting to feel like the dog owner who cried wolf, Lilly decides to go undercover to catch a killer who may be hiding in plain sight . . .

Clean Kill in Cherry Hills by Paige Sleuth

Sometimes murder is the only way to clean up the neighborhood.

Kat Harper's leisurely Sunday afternoon at her police detective boyfriend Andrew's house comes to an abrupt halt when a stray cat leads them to a dead body next door. Tragic as it is, nobody is surprised to learn the neighborhood hoarder lost his life in a mess of his own making.

Or did he?

The police soon rule Glen Havelin's death a homicide, but how do you narrow down the suspect list for a victim nobody liked? The deeper Kat digs, the more certain she is that Glen racked up more enemies than neighborhood code violations. But that won't stop the amateur sleuth from getting to the truth . . . not even after she's told her quest for "whodunit" might be putting her relationship with Andrew in jeopardy.

April Book Giveaway and Adoptable Animal

*** Giveaway closed. Congratulations to Barbara C., the winner! ***

Happy April, everyone! This month I'm giving away a copy of Nine Lives by Wendy Corsi Staub. This wonderful book features some paranormal elements as well as a lovable cat. If the Book Depository does not ship to the winner's country, the winner will receive an alternate prize of my choosing. Please see my website for the full rules.

It's also time to spotlight another adoptable animal! Meet the beautiful and friendly Scrappy Doo.

Scrappy Doo the Cat, April's Adoptable Animal

Scrappy Doo is a 15-pound Maine Coon mix thought to be about five years old. He should be an only cat, as he can be rather aggressive toward other cats. It is unknown how he would get along with dogs or children. He is very affectionate and loving with people, and he would make a wonderful pet. He does tend to regurgitate his food easily, however, either because he eats too fast or needs a special diet. He is an indoor cat but enjoys walking on a leash outside. Please visit Scrappy Doo's profile on The NoKill Network to learn more about Scrappy Doo or to apply for adoption.

If you're entering the book giveaway, there is a daily option to share information about Scrappy Doo in order to earn more entries. If you're not entering the book giveaway, below are some links to pages/posts you can share/retweet if you'd still like to give Scrappy some additional exposure.

When reluctant road trippers Bella Jordan and her son Max detour to Lily Dale, New York, they're planning to deliver a lost cat to its home and then move on, searching for one of their own. But the footloose feline's owner Leona Gatto has unexpectedly passed away, leaving behind a pregnant pet without a mistress, a busy inn without a keeper--and a lovable circle of neighbors who chat with dead people.

After agreeing to help out temporarily, sensible Bella doesn't need psychic gifts to figure out that a houseful of tourists and a litter of kittens lie in her immediate future--or that Leona was murdered. It's up to her to solve the case so that she and Max can leave town, but their new home--like Leona's killer--might just lurk where she least expects it.

February Giveaway and Adoptable Animal

*** Giveaway closed. Congratulations to Dianne C., the winner! ***

Happy 2019, everyone! It's hard for me to believe it's February already. Where did January go?

Time for another book giveaway! This week I'm featuring suspense novels by Cynthia Harrison and Hallie Ephron. Cynthia is the very first author friend I made online when I began this publishing journey back in 2013. She has historically been a romance author, but I'm thrilled she's finding her way into mysteries. Lily White in Detroit is her debut suspense novel, and it's wonderful. I discovered Hallie through the Jungle Red Writers, a fabulously entertaining blog run by several women mystery authors. If you're not familiar with the Jungle Red Writers, you need to fix that right away! Hallie's You'll Never Know, Dear is an entertaining standalone novel and not nearly as creepy as the cover suggests. I promise. United States residents are welcome to enter to win one or both titles and will receive my gently used book(s) if they win. Non-US readers can choose one of these books and, if they win, they will either receive a new paperback of their chosen title or, if the Book Depository does not ship to their country, an alternate prize of my choosing. Please see my website for the full rules.

It's also time to spotlight another adoptable animal! Meet the beautiful Lulu Belle.

Lulu Belle the Cat, February's Adoptable Animal

Lulu Belle is a nine-year-old domestic shorthair available through P.A.W.S. of Tinley Park, a no-kill shelter in Tinley Park, Illinois. Please visit Lulu Belle's Petango profile for details on how to contact the shelter.

If you're entering the book giveaway, there is a daily option to share information about Lulu Belle in order to earn more entries. If you're not entering the book giveaway, below are some links to pages/posts you can share/retweet if you'd still like to give this cute kitty some additional exposure.

Lily White in Detroit by Cynthia Harrison

Private investigator Lily White has a client with a faulty moral compass. When the client is arrested for murdering his wife and her alleged lover, Lily follows her intuition and her own leads. If she’s wrong, she’ll at least know she did her job.

Detroit police detective Derrick Paxton remembers Lily from another case. He understands she suffers from PTSD and thinks her judgment is impaired. He goes after her client and the evidence he needs to close the case. When Lily is kidnapped, the case takes an unexpected turn.

In a sometimes racially divided city, a black cop and a white PI work together to peel back every layer to find the truth. What they find leads them to each other, but do they have enough to bring the true criminals to justice?

You'll Never Know, Dear by Hallie Ephron

Seven-year-old Lissie Woodham and her four-year-old sister Janey were playing with their porcelain dolls in the front yard when an adorable puppy scampered by. Eager to pet the pretty dog, Lissie chased after the pup as it ran down the street. When she returned to the yard, Janey’s precious doll was gone . . . and so was Janey.

Forty years after Janey went missing, Lis—now a mother with a college-age daughter of her own—still blames herself for what happened. Every year on the anniversary of her sister’s disappearance, their mother, Miss Sorrel, places a classified ad in the local paper with a picture of the toy Janey had with her that day—a one-of-a-kind porcelain doll—offering a generous cash reward for its return. For years, there’s been no response. But this year, the doll came home.

It is the first clue in a decades-old mystery that is about to turn into something far more sinister—endangering Lis and the lives of her mother and daughter as well. Someone knows the truth about what happened all those years ago, and is desperate to keep it hidden.
